Sharks declare eight players on free transfer
Sharks Football club of Port Harcourt has declared eight of their players, Seyi Ogunsanya, Okey Iwunze, Friday Ibe, Idowu Olaiya, John Godwin, Muideen Oyewole, Kazeem Ahmed and Nasir Hussein as surplus to requirement and has subsequently placed them on the transfer market.
Citing declining productivity and indiscipline, amongst other reason for the placing them on the transfer market, the club's press officer told nigeriasports.com, "The truth is that these players have not acted like true professionals and to think that they are older players in the team who are meant to give direction to the younger ones is a cause to worry about It is because of this same lackadaisical attitude by some of our players, that we were relegated last season even though people thought we had one of the best collection of players in the league last season. When it comes to collecting money their committment is one hundred percent but they do not give a tenth of that in training and in matches. We believe that this action will be a wake up call to other players in the team to either sit up or be shown the way out. We need to return to the Premier league and the earlier we do away with players who will just drag us back the better for us. Some players like Igwe West who only joined the team from Rivers United this season have ben given a warning and will be watched very closely from now on". Draw 1-1 with Ocean boys Meanwhile, the Garden city Club could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to visiting Ocean Boys FC in their week -17 match, played at the Liberation Stadium, Elikahia, PH, last Saturday. Our Port-Harcourt correspondent Gift Eguma who watched the encounter reports that the game full of action, but it was the visitors from Bayelsa took the lead 62nd minute through a solo effort by Joseph Ochuko., however the Garden city battled back to earn themselves a draw through a late equalizer in 81st by a fine header Ekene Udoja.
