FCT Queens of Abuja disband

FCT Queens Assistant Coach, Iyabo Abade and midfielder Christy
FCT Queens Football Club of Abuja has been disbanded, according to reports from Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The Abuja based club has been facing financial crises for more than eight months and their eventual disbandment would not come as a surprise to many.

A player with the side told www.nigeriasports.com that with the new development most players of the club have moved to Delta Queens, Pelican Stars, Capital Queens of Oron and Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt.

Rosy times

FCT Queens of Abuja has in times past featured such Falcons players as Ifeanyi Chiejine, Ajuma Ameh, Omon Ighodaro and last year they had league highest goal scorer, Stella Godwin who finished the season with thirteen goals.

The club were regular participants at the Annual Dana Cup in Denmark and won the 2003 edition but soon after participating in Dana Cup 2003, their financial turbulence began.

Worst Super Six ever

At the last edition of the female league Super Six the ominous signs were ever present that FCT Queens would not last as a club.

Twenty two players were crammed into two hotel rooms for the ten day championships yet they could not pay their bills and the club’s bus was impounded by the hotel management leaving the players stranded at Umuahia for more than five days after the official end of the Female league Championship.

The players claimed they were also owed salaries and allowances dating twelve months back although that was cleared out on the orders of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El- Rufai, just before Christmas.

Clubs swoop on free players

Nnochiri Nwaiwu, the female football secretary of the NFA told www.nigeriasports.com that there has not been any official confirmation of the disbandment to the NFA, but the players would be free to leave to other clubs if the story is true.

“Those who has employment from the council can stay but others will have to find other sources of employment.”

Already top clubs in the country like Pelican Stars of Calabar, Champions Delta Queens of Asaba, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt and Capital Queens of Oron are already in talks with players from the distressed club.
