Berti Vogt release 23-man list for MTN CAN

Nigeria have picked their 23 flag-bearers for the 26th African Cup of Nations finals starting in Ghana next weekend. Nigeria's Coach, Berti Vogts released the list at the team’s training camp in Malaga, Spain, less than 24 hours after a second-string team defeated 2-0 in what was effectively the Super Eagles’ last friendly before the start of the championship.

Hard-as-nails midfielders Kazeem Ayila and Sani Kaita, who both played in Egypt two years ago, missed the cut, but Vogts still managed to take 14 of the 23 players who represented the country at the 2006 edition of the Nations Cup held in Egypt.

Goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide and Bamidele Aiyenugba are all back, as well as defenders Obinna Nwaneri, Joseph Yobo and Taye Taiwo, midfielders Seyi Olofinjana, John Mikel Obi and Osaze Odemwingie and strikers Nwankwo Kanu, Obafemi Martins, John Utaka, Ayodele Makinwa and Obinna Nsofor are all in the crack team that will attempt to out-do Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Republic of Benin.

This time, there is place for power-playing Yakubu Aiyegbeni and new boy Ikechukwu Uche, midfielders Onyekachi Okonkwo and Dickson Etuhu, defenders Danny Shittu, Ifeanyi Emeghara, Rabiu Afolabi, Richard Eromoigbe and Apam Onyekachi.
