Lolia Kienka wins right to challenge senior player

IEI Port Harcourt Junior Open: Lolia Kienka, 15, Friday in Port Harcourt won the right to challenge Christy Agugbom the number six ranked female player in Nigeria by winning all her round robin matches, the last against Aminat Quadri whom she beat 9-5.

Organisers, International Tennis Academy had arranged the challenge as a reward for the girls’ champion and to test how far the junior tennis circuit has come to closing the gap between the seniors and the juniors.

Christy Agugbom is famous for her resilience and fighting spirit on court and should provide the right test for the top junior who won a gold medal at the African junior championship last April. The boys will have a chance to challenge a senior player at the Central Bank Junior Championship in March next year.

Other finalists have also emerged in some of the other categories. In the boys 10 and under, Joseph Imeh will meet his Lagos State team mate Gabriel Iorbo while Kabiru Malik will meet Anthony Leo, his Co-Foundation team mate in the boys 14 finals.
