Senegal pound DR Congo, battle Mozambique in semi

Host Senegal Friday night shove aside DR Congo in the last quarter finals match of the 20th Africa Nations Championship for Women played at the Marius Ndiaye gymnasium.

Cheered on by capacity crowd, the Senegalese side won in all four quarters of 26-12, 20-17, 11-07 and 19-13 for a final score line of 76-49 points to set up semi-finals battle against Nigeria conqueror, Mozambique on Saturday night.

Aya Traore led the floor with 20 points, 3 rebounds and one assist, Astou Traore added 14 points and 3 rebounds while captain of the Senegalese Lioness, Anta SY gave a good account of herself as good defensive player grabbing 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.

DR Congo’s Amelie Lumanu Kalonda 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists were not enough to save side from defeat. The Congolese will now play Nigeria in a classification match Saturday.

In the first semi final Saturday, enterprising Mali will take on Angola while Senegal will attempt to prove that her first beating of Mozambique at the group stage was no fluke when both side file out for the second semi-finals.
