Kenya name Squad leave for Dakar
Kenya Basketball Federation, KBF, today named the players will fly its flag at the 20th FIBA Africa Championship for Women dunking off in Dakar Senegal Friday.
According to the list of twelve players released by the KBF for the battle for the sole Olympic Games ticket are seven new players who were drafted in to replace some of the East Africa nation at the continent’s biggest Women basketball competition. Speaking shortly before the list was made public KBF Chairman, Agina Wesonga also gave a hint that the team will be handled in Senegal by two youthful coaches who were drawn from two of its leading club sides. The players for the Senegal war which will see Kenya slugging out in group-B alongside defending champion, Nigeria, former African champion, DR. Congo, Angola, Cape Verde and Cameroon, includes Strathmore University Centre, Beryl Amayo, Angela Okoth, Samba Mjoma, Brend Odula (USIU), Caroline Arato, Millicent Anyango, Mirriam Awuor and Yvonne Akinyi of Kenya Port Authority basketball club. Others are Eunice Ouma, Caroline Achieng, Rebecca Sarange, and Joyce Makungu (Eagle Wings). Coaches Anthony Ojukwu of Kenya Port Authority basketball club to be assisted by Storms basketball club coach Ben Oluoch will handle the team. The players and their officials’ jet out for Senegal today so as to have some days rest before filling out against Angola in her group-B first game, the East Africans will battle Cape Verde on Saturday while it will take to the court against Cameroon on Sunday before proceeding on a day rest. Upon resumption of hostilities next Tuesday Coach Ojukwu and his Ladies will keep a date with DR. Congo before engaging defending champion Nigeria next Wednesday for her last group-B game. 0
