Rivers Gov.Omehia lands Seoul This assurance was given by the state governor, Sir Celestine Omehia, while speaking with Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Hon. Gbenga Elegbede on arrival at the Incheon International Airport, South Korea. Speaking through the Special Assistant on Sports, Mr. King Didia, the governor said he is proud of the feat of the team in getting to the finals. He noted that the exploits of the boys has shown that the country is blessed with lots of young talents. Describing the players as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria , he averred Nigeria ’s participation depicts the fact that the country upholds the tenets of peace, friendship and goodwill amongst the men in the world, dearly. This he said, has equally informed the reason why the state government is sponsoring two football clubs in the Nigerian football league. He posited that the importance of sports, especially, football in the cementing of peaceful bonds among the people of the world irrespective of race, creed or colour informed the reason why the state government encourages and rewards all youths in the state, who brings honour through sports to the state. He said that the recent award of cars and financial largesse to the football clubs in the state is a testimony of the seriousness the state attach to sports development and is promotion in the state. In his response, Hon. Gbenga Elegbede commended state governor for his commitment to sports promotion in the country. Hon. Elegbede averred tha Governor Omehia’s commitment to sports promotion in Nigeria , especially, Rivers State is a worthy example for other political and good spirited individuals to emulate. He said it is not a secret that the financial reward promised the Super Falcons in the All Africa Games spurred them on to wake up from their slumber and went all out to win the coveted gold medal.
