ANC ’07: Nigeria begin preparation

Defending champion of the FIBA Africa Championship for Women, Nigeria resume camping ahead the 20th edition of the championship expected to dunk-off on September 21 in Dakar, Senegal.

According to information made available to FIBA Africa website by the secretariat of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, players and officials of the 9th All Africa Games silver medallist will converge in Nigeria capital, Abuja from today.

Nigeria Basketball Federation Secretary General, Francis Gbiri says the players and their handlers have been asked to report to Abuja where the team is expected to fine tune its preparedness to defend the title it won in 2003 (Mozambique) and 2005 (Nigeria).

The Nigerian side coached by the trio of Kevin Cooks, Scott Nnaji and Adewumi Aderemi is reported to be determined to stunn home team and 9th All Africa Games gold medal winner, Senegal and book a second straight Olympic Games ticket.

Nigeria drawn in group-B and will play her opening game against Cameroon on September 21, the Mfon Udoka captain side will take to the court against Angola next day and will battle the women from DR. Congo before observing a day rest.

Upon resumption of hostilities on the fifth day of the championship the Nigerian Ladies will lock horn with Cape Verde and round off her group games against Kenya.
