Senegal sacks Sam Vincent

Sacked, Coach Vincent
The Senegalese Basketball Federation (FSBB) interrupted the contract which connected it to the coach of the male senior national team, Sam Vincent, after the bad performance of the team to the just concluded Africa Nations Championship for men (Afrobasket 2007) which took place in Angola from 15th to 25th August 2007, it was learnt Tuesday, from good source in Dakar.

Following the bad performance of Senegal who finished second of the 2005 edition in Algiers, Algeria placed a dismal ninth place in the Afrobasket 2007, a debate settled down in the local sports environment where members of the Senegalese board call for the resignation of its president, Alioune Badara Diagne.

The president of the FSBB, who refuses to resign, announced that the contract with the American coach had been interrupted because he (Sam Vincent) did not respect its commitments ", of which the main thing was to gain the sixth African title for Senegal.

Sam Vincent had been contracted to lead Senegal team during the Afrobasket 2007, but was absent in Angola where the host won the 9th title in the last ten edition of the continent's flagship championship.

"He did not train the Senegal team, it is the report made by everybody, then it is not necessary any more to continue the other part of the contract which consisted in coming to Dakar to assist the female team " during the Africa Nations Championship for Women to be held from 21st to 30th September 2007 in Dakar and Thiès, Senegal, he underlined.

Concerning the collapse of the team, the FSBB president gave a hint where the Lions face Côte d'Ivoire and Egypt in the «group of the death " in the Afrobasket 2007.

Ten years after winning its fifth African title in Dakar in 1997, Senegal was the greatest disappointment of the Afrobasket 2007 played in five cities of Angola.
