Alamieyesigha splashes millions on Bayelsa Athlete

Bayelsa State athletes who won medals at the 8th All Africa Games held in Abuja have been charged to repeat the feat at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens.

Governor, Diepreye Alamieyesiegha gave this charge in Yenagoa while speaking at a reception organised in honour of the athletes.

“By contributing six gold, four silver and two bronze medals to the total medals of Team Nigeria, the State’s Athletes have repositioned the state on the map of Africa.” The Bayelsa State Governor said.

Chief Alamieyesiegha said with the state athletes winning five gold, two silver and one bronze in wrestling alone showed that the state was qualified and would demand as its right that a wrestling academy be established in the state by the federal government.

Naira rain

At the end of the ceremony, the Governor made a pronouncement of half a million Naira to each of the six gold medallists.

Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira each for each of the four silver medallists and two hundred thousand Naira for each of the two bronze medallists.

Three other athletes who participated in the eight All African Games but did not win medals, received a hundred thousand Naira each, while the Director of Sports, Jackson Igbe and Bayelsa born Canadian Olympic Wrestling Champion Daniel Igalli who both stayed as the Technical Advisers to the Wrestlers where given six hundred thousand each.
