Car, Naira rain for Dolphins, Sharks

It was a day of reward as the Rivers state Government, Wednesday showered cars and monetary gifts on the players that did the state proud in the just concluded Nigeria FA cup series.

The Celestine Omehia led government of Rivers state doled out the sum of 1million naira each to the 25 players registered by Sharks for placing 3rd over-all in the FA cup while each of the six officials got half a million naira more.

For Dolphins FC, winners of the 2006/ 2007 FA cup, a brand new Kia car came the way of each of the 25 players as well as the six officials of the team.

As if not done, the Governor also approved the payment of all outstanding match bonuses, salaries and sign on fees, all to be payed the players by Monday next week.

The medical expenses of all the players injured during the course of the competition, is also to be borne by the state government.

Captain of Sharks FC, Odinga Odinga, thanked the Government on behalf of the teams and further implored the state to do everything possible in seeing to the quick return of Dolphins to the premier league following its relegation at the end of the 2006/ 07 season.

Some of the dignitaries at the occassion included the NFL chairman, Oyiki Obaseki, former NFA chairman, Ibrahim Galadima, former NRA chairman, Sam Jaja and a host of others.
