Inter beat Milan to Trofeo Tim Cup

Inter have won the Trofeo Tim after beating Milan 1-0 in the final "mini-match" of this triangular tournament. Inter had earlier drawn with Juventus before winning on penalties, while Milan had beaten Juve 1-0. All three matches were 45 minutes long.

Inter played with Crespo and Recoba up front, while Milan played with lone striker Inzaghi, with Seedorf and Gourcuff in support.

Milan were the more attacking side as the Nerazzurri relied more on a solid defence and clinical counter-attacks.

However, the Rossoneri were thwarted by some superb goalkeeping by veteran Paolo Orlandoni, who did particularly well to save a header by Inzaghi which was destined for the top corner.

In the resulting play, Crespo came close, but Kalac just about got to the ball.

Later, a shot from outside the area by the impressive young French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff was just tipped onto the post by Orlandoni, in what was another outstanding save. Soon after that the veteran was substituted by Toldo.

Recoba then scored the winning goal with a brilliant, swerving long-range shot which looped over Kalac.

Inter made several substitutions after that, and though Inzaghi came close again with a header, the result did not change.

The final standings see Inter on top with 5 points (with 2 points being awarded for a penalty shoot out win). Milan ended with 3, and Juve with 1.
