Mystery Over Milan's "Mister X"
Italian giant, AC Milan’s next major signing remains a mystery with many names linked to the Rossoneri.
What we know is that the new player will almost certainly be a midfielder, with names such as Thiago Motta and Emerson being the most popular in circulation. However, Emerson’s age and condition could see Milan decide to pass on him, making Motta the man most likely to suit up for the Rossoneri this season. Milan president Silvio Berlusconi held a lunchtime meeting with sponsors at Milanello on Monday, and has reportedly revealed that the signing of Motta is his preferred option. Milan now looks set to sign the Italian-Brazilian very soon, and acquire Brazilian starlet Alexandre Pato in January. They are counting on convincing the forward to stay put despite overtures from Real Madrid and Chelsea. Motta is now considered surplus to requirements at Barcelona following the acquisition of Yaya Toure. After having been with the club for eight years, the Brazilian has been told to find himself another club. As he has dual nationality, Motta will not take up a foreigner’s spot in Milan's squad, allowing for the signing of Pato in the winter. The young Brazilian’s price is likely to skyrocket if he is not signed soon. Milan understand this as they purchased Kaka’ cheaply and he has now developed into one of the world’s best. Brazilian players remain favourite targets for the staff in charge at Milan. There have been certain reports that Julio Baptista could be the mystery man, but that has found few takers, as he is neither the star forward nor the solid midfielder the Rossoneri want. 0
