Orange Drugs splash N3.2M on Procold Table Tennis
Orange Drugs Limited marketers of Procold an ‘Anti Cold’ is splashing a whopping sum of N3.2 million on the 1st Procold Lagos Table Tennis Open Championship expected to off on August 1, 2007 at the Indoor Hall of the University of Lagos Sports Centre.
Speaking at a briefing Tuesday to herald the championship the country manager for KALBE the parent company of Procold and partner of Orange Drugs, Didik Novandi said his organization involvement in the sponsorship of the table tennis championship is to contribute to the promotion of the sport in Nigeria. Also reiterating Novandi’s statement is the Media Consultant to Orange Drugs limited, Ingram Osigwe who says the top flight drugs marketer in Nigeria is pleased to put to practice the call by the Federal Government that corporate bodies should contribute to the growth of sports in Nigeria and as a mean of the company’s social contribution to the society. The Procold-man in Nigeria, Novandi says the sponsorship package is put at $25, 000 or N3.2 million naira while $7, 000 has been set aside from the total package as prize money for the eight events that would be vied for by the players. Novamdi also said various souvenirs will be given out to fans on daily basis, such a T-shirts and radios which will be won through a raffle draws. The first position winner in the senior Men’s Singles category will smile home with a 29” colour television set in addition to the prize money while his Women’s Singles champion will get 21” colour television set plus $800. He said Procold been a brand name among the drugs for cold and flu is proud to be associated with table tennis and hope to ups the sponsorship package next year. All the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja are expected to participate in the Procold Lagos Open of which 27 have confirm their entries for the four-day championship which will run through August 4, 2007. Among the top stars that are expected to fight for the $1, 000 prizes for the first position in the Men singles event includes reigning Commonwealth Men’s Singles champions, Segun Toriola, Monday Merountoun and Kazeez Hassan while Africa ping-pong queen Bose Kaffo will lead the pack in the Women Singles. Assistant head coach of the Lagos State Table Tennis Wole Orukotan said the technical committee of the association is prepared for the championship which he described as one of the biggest table championship in the country. The top coach gave other event that will be competed for as include the junior men and women, men’s double, women’s double, junior double in both men and women. 0
