Ikhana accept to rescue U-23

Kadiri Ikhana
Caf champions’ league winning coach and former international, Kadiri Ikhana has finally agreed to rescue the national U-23 side ‘Dream team III’ from the nightmares of their Athens 2004 qualifiers.

The former Enyimba tactician confided in www.nigeriasports.com at the Nigeria Football Association house in Abuja that everything depends on the support of the soccer house and the entire country.

“I will gladly assist my county in any capacity as long as there is support and non- interference from the NFA” he voiced.

Shockingly, Ikhana had earlier shown reluctance in accepting the ‘Almighty Rescue Mission’ after South Africa PSL side Black Leopards offered him a mouth watering contract after his exploits with Nigerian league champions, Enyimba of Aba.

Ikhana based his decision to accept the offer on the fact that it is a short term project and a national call. In his words “Although I have already signed for a South African team but with the PSL not due to start until April, I decided to use the period between now and then to assist my country, in securing the Olympic soccer ticket”

No time to waste

Interestingly, the Edo state born Ikhana is expected to start work in the next one week as he plans to move round the country to scout for players, whom he says will form the bulk of his team, as he plans to make available just two slots for foreign based professionals.

Meanwhile, negotiations continue Friday as both parties (NFA and the Coach) will be finalising on the remunerations and exact duration of the contract.
