The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has given funding support to the tune of fifteen thousand US Dollars ($15, 000) to the Street Soccer League Cup, slated for the AstroTurf 2000 from July 12 – 15. FIFA’s goodwill decision was conveyed in a letter signed by Federico Addiechi, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and sent to Yomi Kuku, Executive Director, Search And Groom Youth for Development Centre, Lagos.

Addiechi re-iterated FIFA’s continued funding support and respect for the agreement on the strategic alliance reached with Streetfootballworld, Berlin through the “football for hope” movement and which has benefited the growing of football and development community.

The FIFA head of  Corporate Social Responsibility stated further that with FIFA increasing the number and scope of their joint efforts with the aim to foster the know-how transfer between organizations, FIFA is committing to invest at least 0.7% of its entire revenues on social development through football.

Search and Groom Exeutive Director, Yomi Kuku praised FIFA for giving back to the people and also taking up its rightful place in seeking and exploiting the vast potentials of the game of football as an instrument for societal change, peace, development and international co-operation.

It will be recalled that FIFA provided funding support for the implementation of the pilot phase of the first ever Street league in Nigeria and a joint Nigeria and Cameroon “road of hope” programme.

Sixteen qualified teams featuring young boys and girls from Abesan, Agege, Ajegunle, Ikeja and Obalende will participate in the "Street Soccer League Cup".
