Victor Attah Takes Polo To Akwa Ibom.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Obong Victor Attah has promised that as from next year the state government would work in conjunction with some corporate bodies in ensuring that a hitch free Polo tournament is held in the State.

He made the promise while declaring closed the five-day Port Harcourt Polo tournament which ended on Sunday, January 11 Tagged Niger-Delta Polo fiesta, the five day event which paraded 20 of the country’s top rated Polo club sides ended amidst backslapping and tumultuous ovation from players and fans that really had a thrilling time while the tournament lasted.

It was while declaring the tournament closed that the architect cum, politician impressed by what he observed declared that his oil rich state in its bid to develop its sporting facilities will ensure that it solicits and gets support for a well recognised tournament within the next 12 months.

He praised Econet wireless, the main sponsors of the tournament and others that played a role in ensuring that the tournament was successful.

Governor Attah also gave kudos to the players for their high sense of discipline and maturity they displayed through out the entire period of the tournament, disclosing that that he was introduced to the game in his days in the north by some of the country’s top stars.

From what i understand Polo to be, it is an ellitist sport.How much impact it has on the Nigerian society of today remains a disputable question.No? I feel the sport should be introduced to young people as well through holiday camps, school programmes, workshops, seminars, etc. But I don not see the government in this. It will work better if a
Polo Foundation is set up to create more awareness of the sport in Nigeria. I would love to discuss this further. Please contact me by email

im brahim ahmat ali,im a big fan of polo,i was travel coz the polo,my country it's the chad beside nigeria,i know all in polo,and now i practic polo with the egyptian polo club in cairo,egypt
i know big players of polo who i meet him in my country and in kano,kaduna,lagos
nigeria is my second country i speack haousa
