FA Cup: Dolphins knock out Enyimba

Dolphins FC on Saturday in Ilorin knocked out league champions, Enyimba from the FA Cup on penalties after the match ended 0-0 at full time.

As FA Cup rules say drawn games go straight to penalty shootouts, it did and Chijioke Ejiogu once again proved to be Dolphins FC's talisman stopping two kicks to hand victoery over to Dolphins.

Owazuoke Wobo Edward Iyowuna, Joseph Cole and Oluwole Johnson all scored for Dolphins while Ejike Uzoenyi and Ajibade Omolade scored for Enyimba. Chijioke Ejiogu saved off the feet of Emeka Akueme and Sibi Gwar.

But in the match, Dolphins seemed to have the upper hand but failed to utilize several scoring chances. In the first half, Gbenga Ajala and Olaiya failed to convert glaring chances.  Wobo Owazuoke also missed a clear opportinuty that would have sinked their opponents in the second half.

Enyimba's chances were few and far between, Emeka Akueme had two possible chances, one in each half to score but Dolphin's goal keeper Chijioke Ejiogu was always on hand to save the situation.

Enyimba's coach, Maurice Cooreman blamed the loss on fatigue. "My boys are tired after a long a season. Dolphins are a good side and should have won the match in the first half but in the second we played much better but failed to score."

Ifeanyi Onyedika of Dolphins said his boys lived up to the occasion, playing a very good match. "We played well but it could have been better. Beating the league champions is good but our eyes are set on the cup.
