Ikidi, Mmadu are patriots- Lad
Chief coach of the Super Falcons, Jossy Lad has described two of his players, Maureen Mmadu and Faith Ikidi as patriots.Despite the fact that both players refused to be part of the Super Falcons team that knocked out Algeria from the Olympic Games qualifiers last week, Lad told nigeriasports.com that he does not blame them for their actions.
“You will have to understand what the girls are going through, especially since the Africa Women Championships last year,” Lad told nigeriasports.com. The two players, alongside Yinka Kudaisi were sacked by the Swedish club, QBIK last year for refusing the overtures of the club to turn down a chance to play in the Nation’s Cup. “I see them as patriots. For them to even make that statement saying it must be Nigeria first, we need to honour them. But they chose Nigeria and lost their means of livelihood so do you blame them for not coming back to play for Nigeria so soon after getting a new club?” Lad said he called on both of them to join his team but they had recently just signed for a new club, Linkoping IF and did not want to leave so soon. “You only get a chance to represent your country once every two years but your club is a weekly thing. If they lose out on their club career how will they feed until the next World Cup or Nation’s Cup? “I believe by the time they are settled they will rejoin their Falcons mates,” Jossy Lad enthused.
