Female football season kicks off on 19th March

Rivers Angels Goalkeeper, Ann Chiejine
The head of the NFA female football committee, Ayo Omidiran has denied rumours making the rounds that the 2004 football season will not hold because the FA failed to attract sponsors.

Ayo Omidiran told www.nigeriasports.com that the rumours are unfounded and the league season will kick off on the 19th of March.

“That is a lie. I do not know where that newspaper got its report. At the AGM, we decided that the league will go on without a sponsor, but there was no such talk about shelving it for one full year.

Professional female league soon

Ayo Omidiran also said that the NFA has accepted a proposal to introduce professional female football in the country by the 2005 season.

“I have had this proposal on ground for so long now, and I’m glad the board finally approved it. I’m sure female football will change next year when it turns professional”

Goes tough on sign on fees

The issue of sign on fees for the 2004 football season will be taken seriously, according to the NFA board member.

“Sign on fees have been outlawed because the game is still amateur. It is an offence to pay sign on fees and any club that does so will be sanctioned.”

Alhaja Omidiran said the board will write warning letters to clubs on the issue of sign on fees and insists that they desist from paying it.
