Nigeria coach pleased with players turn-out

The head coach of the Nigeria junior national team, Adeka Dauda said he is pleased with the response of players invited for the open camp which commence in Lagos last Monday.

Speaking with our correspondence the Nigerian tactician is optimistic that with the turn-out and response of the players to training the African champion will go places in Serbia when the World Championship jumpstart on July 12.

“I am thrilled with the response of the boys to training and if they continue in this manner then Nigeria and indeed basketball fans in the Africa continent should be rest assured that the team will not disappoint at the big ocassion”

The coach gave insight into what to expect at the end of the ten-day scremage on June 8 with the 25 players and what to come thereafter as the championship commencement date draws nearer.

“We will select the best 15 players from the present exercise to be joined by three foreign-based players mainly post players for a full one month close camping slated for Kaduna so as to avoid distraction where the final twelve-man team will be selected.

On whether the team would embark on any foreign tour before heading for Novi Sad, Serbia venue of the championship, the former, Dodan Warriors and Ebun Comets basketball clubs coach says only the Technical Committee and the Youth Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF can provide answer to that.

According to him, it would have been a good idea if the team is meant to play some tough friendly matches before the commencement of the world championship but in the absence of an opportunity to go on a training tour, the team would rather settle to play against some of the top clubs in the country as tune-up for the championship.
