Area boys warned to steer clear of Dolphins, Shark

The Rivers State Government have expressed  strong disappointment over the recent reported cases of harassment and intimidation of officials and players of Dolphins and Sharks Football Club by social miscreants, also known as “Area boys”.

To this end the State Sports Commissioner, Allwell Onyesoh has called on fans of both Clubs to conduct themselves properly while at their training sessions.

Onyesoh told www.nigeriasports.com  that having invested millions of Naira on both clubs the State Government will not fold its hands while hoodlums invade their camps threatening the lives of the players.

On the alleged pressure mounted on the club officials to recruit only indigenes of the state, Commissioner Onyesoh remarked that the move is unnecessary since both Sharks and Dolphins are already dominated by indigenes of Rivers State.

“These two clubs, I believe were established to expose the best footballers who are indigenes of the state, but any one not found worthy of wearing the jerseys of either Dolphins or Sharks should take it in good faith.”

The Rivers State Sports boss warned that an individual or group caught causing a breach of the peace in any of the campus will be dealt with.

“I don’t care if you are from Rivers State, you will only play for either of these clubs if you are qualified. The example of Enyimba should still be fresh in our minds where most of the boys who won for them are not even from Abia State.”

Assures of Government Support

Allwell Onyesoh assured that the Rivers State Government will throw its weight behind Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt as she get set to play in the Professional Division B league this coming season.

The sports commissioner disclosed this at the club’s temporary training ground at the Michelin Sports Complex in Port Harcourt.

Onyesoh enjoined the players not to allow them to be weighed down by the outcome of the NFA AGM, stressing that the Odili led government has already made funds available to ensure the players welfare is taken care of this season.

He expressed hoped that with the number of quality players in camp tutored by Shuabu Amodu Sharks will return to the elite division.

“As it is now, you are down but not out,” The sports Commissioner told the Sharks players.

“The new season is about to begin and you can still prove yourself. You can top the league and prove to the world that you don’t belong to the lower leagues”

He stressed that the club will not have financial problems this season as the State Governor has released all the club will need to prosecute the 2004 football season.
