Candy dumps Babalola in a major upset

The on-going CBN tennis open today reoorded its first major upset as Candy idoko seeded No 5 sent the defaending champion and No. 1 seed Abdulmumini Babalola, packing in their tension soaked quarter final encounter at the centre court s of National Stadium Tennis courts by beating him 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals.

Candy Iidoko  had approached the game cautiously losing the first set 3-6 to the champions Abdulmumini Babalola,  but he came back fighting in the second game which he won 6-3, cheered on by the fans Candy kept his cool as he took the 3rd and final 6-3 to win the set and game to advance to the semi-finals.

"I knew it was going a tough game, but when I levelled up at one all,i thought to myself , i  could win this" and with fans cheering, i kenw i can do it" an elated Idoko told nigeriasports.com. Babalola, was too stunted to talk as he kept staring at his racket,  trying figure out what went wrong.

In other quarter- final games decided today, S Balogun retired at 7-5 3-0  in his game against Augustine Nwokedi, while Shehu Lawal defeated Monday Igbinovia 2-6 6-3 6-3 

The semi-finals which comes up tommorrow will see Da' Silva taking on Candy Idoko, while Nwokedi will be toughing it out with Shehu Lawal.
