Globacom Okays Teslim Balogun Pitch

Globacom, official sponsors of the Nigeria premier football league has expressed satisfaction with the standard of facilities at the Teslim Balogun Stadium which has been picked by the Nigeria Football League(NFL) to host matches of the Premier League Super 4 play-offs. Officials of the company, who inspected the newly completed stadium on Thursday, commended the Lagos State government for the project which they described as a boost to sports development. Speaking on the readiness of the stadium to host the Glo Super 4, Sponsorship Manager of Globacom, Harry Iwuala described the pitch as very suitable for modern football. “It’s a great pitch and very wonderful for contemporary football. We believe the players will be motivated to dig deep into their reservoir of skills to make the Glo Super 4 a reference point of domestic football”, Iwuala remarked. He lamented that the oft criticize aspect of domestic football in the country has been poor playing turfs and noted that it has greatly contributed to the lack of entertainment and thrills offered by football in countries with better facilities. In his words, “I often feel for our players when it is said that our matches lack thrills because the boys have to contend with the fear of getting injured, they contend with poor bounce of balls on uneven surfaces and under these circumstances, it is difficult to give their best”. The Globacom official said the completion of the Teslim Balogun Stadium by the Lagos State government is a boost to the teeming population of budding sports men and women as well as individuals who seek venues for physical exercise. “The facility is going to ease the pressure on the National Stadium and more people will find space to exercise and practice their games” Enyimba International, Gombe United, Wikki Tourists and Rangers International on Wednesday qualified for the Glo Super 4 which kicks off from June 6- 10.
