Nigerians Rue Ocean Boys Failure

Following the failure of Nigeria league champions, Ocean Boys FC of Brass, to qualify from the preliminary round of the CAF/MTN Champions League, Nigerians are upset that they have had the worst kind of representation since after the exploits of Enyimba FC of Aba in the continent.

The Bayelsa state team was on Sunday evening bundled out of the competition in their second leg encounter Sierra Lepne youth side FC Kallon. After a goaless first leg in the yenadoa Township Sports complex inwhich the Nigerian team fluffed a lot of goals opportunities, they were handed a 1-nil victory by the Coah Tunde Scott led Freetown boys.

For many Nigerians, it is the worst performance of any nigerian league title holder in the competition in the past one decade, no thamks to the alleged indulgence of the club supporters in their demand for the termination of coach Samson Siasia who was initially employed to lead the boys out on their continental debut even as Nigerians express reservation on the ability of current coach Tunde Disu to return the team to the winning ways they had under former Belgian coach Maurice Cooreman.

The misfortune notwithstanding, club media officer Loveday Herbert insists that it is not end of the road for Ocean Boys. "The campaign was obviously disappointing for a league title holder and winner of the charity cup but its our first continental outing and I believe we are richer by experience. Ocean Boys will surely rise again", he  told nigeriasports.com
