Indiscipline Rears Head at Polo Tournament.
Polo has often been described as the game of Kings and the king of games; however the ugly side of the game was shown publicly on Day four of the Port Harcourt Polo Tournament 2004.
In the first match of the day between Intercity Bank of the Port –Harcourt and the Kaduna ICN indiscipline reared its ugly head as several of the umpires’ decisions were contested by the players in the ill tempered match. It took the wise counsel of the much respected Chairman of the Nigerian Polo Association, Senator Ibrahim Idris Kuta, to cool frayed nerves. The highly charged match produced eight goals, three of which were scored by Femi Banjoko whose Intercity Bank side won 5-3 goals. His inspiring performance however came with a price. The -2 handicap player went through pains, at a stage he fell off his pony. After the match he had to be treated by the medical team for injuries he sustained. Femi told www.nigeriasports.com that his star performance was a result of his nine years experience in the game.
