All is set for 8th Rookies Tourney

According to coordinator of the annual event, Mark Balogun, an Assistant Superintendent of Police said this year’s edition would see six female and eight male teams vying for honour.

Balogun who also double as the head coach of the Nigeria Police basketball teams – The Bombers said the idea behind the competition that have produced the likes of Nigeria internationals, Churchill Odia who once played in the colour of Ebun Comets basketball club, Daniel Dawodu who featured for Nigeria Customs team and third finisher at the just concluded 21st FIBA Africa Champions Club Cup Competition, Dodan Warriors basketball, Moses Dawodu of the Union Bank basketball club, Onyekachi Ebenuwa of the Police Bombers, Michael Ohiero of Ebun Comets, Bahrain based Akin Akintunde, USA based and former Union Bank forward, Abayomi Ajasin and Julie Onyelugo of Dolphins female basketball club just to mention a few, is to discover more of such players for the benefit of basketball in Nigeria.

An enthusiastic Balogun said he believed the competition will live up to its billing and appeal to well meaning lovers of the game to support the competition in whatever way they could.

He said the whole essence of the competition is to discover these players at an early stage and groom them to become great players like their predecessors.

Aside the 14 male and female teams that will vie for honours in the nine-day event kids between the ages of 7 and 12 will also have the opportunity to showcase their skills daily.

A one-day clinic to be conducted by top coaches will precede the competition.
