Minister carpet NFA

Robson saga revisited
The Nigeria football Association (NFA) has come under huge criticism from the Minister of sports, Musa Muhammed over questionable decisions taken by the body last year.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the NFA, the sports minister, described the much-publicised Robson-saga, as a breach of protocol on the part of the FA.

Stressing how he vehemently refused to sanction the deal saying that Nigeria simply couldn’t afford to pay for a high-profile coach like Robson.

He said: "They (the NFA) could not convince me that they could pay the US$50,000 a month they promised Mr. Robson.

Emphasising NFA’s rather complicating handling of the matter then, which resulted in the cancellation of the deal.

“I’ve never heard of anywhere in the world where a coach is getting paid upfront for a job he is yet to accomplish” he added

"They told me a private telecommunications company ... has offered to pay but when I asked for any document to back that up, they could not produce any."

The Minister however advised the body to bear in mind that it remains a parastatal of the ministry, and the soccer house is expected to consult the sports ministry before taken any decision of national interest.
