MTN Youth Soccer Competition kicks off in Enugu

The fourth edition of MTN Youth Soccer Competition kicks off in Enugu, the coalcity on Sunday November 5, 2006 at the Polo Field, Enugu by 4pm.
   
  According to the co-ordinator of the MTN Soccer Tournament, Barrister Chinedu Iloeje, only one match will be played on the opening day on Sunday at 4pm; while two matches will be played daily till the end of the preliminaries which will end on Satuday, November 11, 2006.
  
  The quarter finals,will  commence on Monday, November 13, 2006 and end on Tuesday, November 14, 2006; while the semi finals will be played on Thursday, 16th November; the third place match and finals hold on saturday, November 18, 2006.
 
Barrister Iloeje also stated that the competition is drawn into four groups with Group A made up of the defending Champions; Riverlane FC, Asata United and Pepsi Football Academy. Group B comprises Zola FC, Future Hope FC and PADORA FC.
 
Group C is made up of Lionaires Fc; Ebony Fc and Hard Madrid Fc; while Group D comprises Liverpool Fc, Samba Fc and A.C. Fc. Two teams will qualify from each group for the Q/Final pairing.
 
Meanwhile, all the 12 participating teams have been given their jersies for the competition; while balls and other logistics mobilization are being awaited. The draws were held yesterday, November 1, 2006 at the Boardroom of Enugu State Sports Council, along Nkpokiti Road, Independence Layout, Enugu.
 
The coordinator commended all the participating teams for qualifying for the competition, adding that over twenty four youth clubs featured in the qualifying competition which was keenly contested. He appealed for discipline in the competition ahead and assured all the participants of good officiating throughout the duration of this years competition.
 
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the coordinator of PEPSI Football Academy, in Enugu, Mr. Edwin Eze commended the organizers and the sponsors for sustaining the competition, now in its fourth edition, and assured them of the cooperation of all the participating teams to make this years editiion, hitch free.
 
Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Ray A. Nnaji is expected as the Guest of Honour during the opening ceremony of Sunday, November 5, 2006.
