Mali hammer Congo DR 3-1

Mali this afternoon at the Oghara stadium increased their hope of moving to the next round of the 5th African Women championship with a 3-2 win over hard fighting Congo DR.

   .
The  Mustapha Traore Girls were in great spirit after   a 1-0 loss to Ghana's Black Queens in their first match at the same venue on last Sunday.

Their willingness to make the best of the match came when   Maimuna Konare blew a good chance over with only the goalie to beat from two yards after eight minutes.

But it was DR Congo, which drew 1-1 with Cameroon in Ughelli in their first game, that drew the first blood as team captain Cyrille Zuma controlled a flighted ball brilliantly and showed excellent composure in slotting past goalkeeper Bamba.

Congo took over from there, with Vumongo Nzuzi enacting a number of brilliant runs  down the right flank, but Mali replied in the 36th minutethroughFatoumata Doumbia's brilliant effort after a great move from the left flank by Rokiatu Samake.

Six minutss into the second half, Mali tried to be ahead,  but Maimuna Konare failed to make contact with the ball when well-placed. At the other end, substitute Ivonne Malembo nearly scored with her first touch of the ball as she chipped goalkeeper Bamba.Mali went ahead in the 69th minute, Fatoumata scoring the first of her two goals by poking a grounder past Congolese keeper Nganzale Buazo.

A brilliant move by Fatoumata Diarra missed narrowly in the 82nd minute. Three minutes later, Congo got their equalizer trough Maluvuidi Mafuta, and a tense finale was only settled when Diarra scored by chipping a low one past keeper Bamba from close range on the dot of 90 minutes.

Mali go to three points, with DR Congo having just one point from their first two matches andfacing elimination
