Nestle Milo Secondary School Championship
All is now set for the grand finale of the 8th edition of the All Nigeria Secondary School Basketball Championship sponsored by Nigeria's long standing basketball friendly corporate organisation, Nestle Nigeria Plc.
The finals which is billed for the Sports Hall of the Lagos national stadium is starting Tuesday, October 10 through 14 with twelve secondary schools (six male and six female) drawn from the six geo-polotical zones of Nigeria. Three schools are drawn against each other in two pools for the male and female with each school playing two group matches while the two top schools in each group will book a semi-final ticket. The boys group-A is made up of: Sheik Abubakar Gumi College, Kaduna, Kaduna State, Government College, Maiduguri, Borno State and Ifako International Secondary School Ifako Agege, Lagos State and the boys group-B has St. Thomas Basic Group of School, Benin-City, Community Secondary School, Kolo, Bayelsa State and WM Bristow Secondary School, Gboko from Benue State campaigning for honours. The girls group-A has schools from; Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State, Government Girls College, Bauchi, Bauchi State and former champion Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan, Oyo State. Pool-B is made up of Asaba Girls Grammar School, Asaba, Delta State, Government Girls College, Gazawa, Kano State and Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School Imo State. On match day-one, Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State will take to the floor against Government Girls College, Bauchi, Bauchi State at 9.00 am local time, the second match will see Girls Pool-B seeded team, Asaba Girls Grammar School, Asaba, Delta State do battle against Government Girls College, Gazawa, Kano State at 10.00 am local time, the third encounter will see the first action in the boys category as Pool-A top team, Sheik Abubakar Gumi College, Kaduna, Kaduna State and Government College, Maiduguri, Borno State entertaining fans at 11.00 am while the last game for the morning of the opening day will see boys Pool-B top contender, St. Thomas Basic Group of School, Benin-City and Community Secondary School, Kolo, Bayelsa State battling for the maximum points at stake at NOON. Action will resume in the afternoon period for the two more matches in the girls cadre between Government Girls College, Bauchi, Bauchi State and 1999 champion Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan, Oyo State at 3.30 pm and the encounter between the girls from Kano Government Girls College, Gazawa and Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School from Imo State at 4.30pm. Nestle's Managing Director, Klaus Wachsmuth promise that the food drink giant will relent in its effort to continue to lift basketball in Nigeria from the grassroot, he also reel out mouth-watering incentives for the winners, first and second runners-up including prizes for the media. The Milo boss thanked the Nigeria basketball community fro believing in the company's ability and contribution to the growth of the slamming and dunking game in Africa most populous nation, Nigeria.
