Nigeria upset Defending Champion 82-75

Nigeria senior basketball began its campaign for a second round slot creating a major upset by beating the FIBA World Championship title holder Serbia & Montenegro 82-75 of (25-19, 17-19, 17-18 and 23-19) to announce its presence in Sendai venue of group-A matches.

Nigeria shooting guard/small forward of the New York Knicks, Imeh Udoka led the team in scoring with 18 points, Standard Leige of Belgium Ebi Ere added 15 while the duo of skipper Julius Nwosu and Korea base Gabriel Muoneke contributed 9 points each.

Nigeria made 40% of its shots from the 2 points field goals to the defending champions 50, 50% from the 3 points shots taken and recorded 64 % from the free throw line.

The coach Sam Vincent tutored sided fouled thier opponents 29 time but the Serbs failed to converts the resultant free throws awarded their team, but the Serbs beat Nigeria in the board with 35 rebounds to Nigeria's 28 which shows that the Nigeria were more potent in scoring.
