4,500 Kids to attend 2006 Milo Clinic

Nestle Nigeria PLC, sponsor of the annual Nestle Milo Future Champions Basketball clinic and tournament, has set a new target to groom about 4,500 kids for future basketball career through this year’s edition of the clinic slated to commence in Kaduna on August 6, 2006.

Speaking during a recent breifing held at the corporate head office of the food drink giant in Lagos Jacques Vauthier, Finance and Control Director of the company explained that the clinic is not just aimed at generating the interest and passion for the game among children between 5 – 14 years, but also to further accelerate the development of basketball in Nigeria.

He added that the clinic has been nurturing the dreams of young Nigerians of becoming basketball stars for over 12 years, and has positively affected the lives of over 50,000 children.

Vauthier further explained that this year’s clinic will hold at five different centres, starting from August 6 to 12 at the Indoor Sports Hall, of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna before moving to the Indoor Sports Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu where the clinic will hold from August 13 to 19.

Action will shift to Lagos from August 20 to 26 where the clinic will hold simultaneously at the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium, Surulere, First Bank Basketball Court, Satellite Town, and Syrian Club, Ribadu Road, Ikoyi.

As usual with the Milo Basketball Clinic, a day before the closing ceremony at each of the venues will provide opportunity for parents to learn useful health tips, particularly on the essence of adequate nutrition for their children and wards.

Reviewing the contributions and commitment of Nestle Milo to basketball development in Nigeria, Dr. Segun Erinle, first vice president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), said Milo’s long term partnership with the federation is responsible for the good dividends that Nigerian basketball is now reaping, adding that this year’s clinic promises lots of excitement, fun, as well as physical and mental development for the kids.
