15th AJUBA: Nigeria team land in Durban

After initial hitch of departing early for Durban, South Africa venue of this year 15th FIBA Africa Under 18 Championship the Nigerian team finally left last night for South Africa aboard, the South African Airways.

Nigeria who is the championship defending champion has promised its teeming supporters that it won’t disappoint when hostility began Friday in the championship which will also serve as 2007 FIBA World Championship qualifiers.

The twelve players selected after a rigorous scrimmage that lasted about three weeks were seen discussing the championship in group, the players said they are prepared for the championship and that nothing will stand between them and the title.

"Only the title is good for us chorus the duo of Oseer Ikyaator and Abel Baraya after they handed down a 76-55 points defeat to Dodan Warriors basketball club at the sports hall of the Lagos National Stadium."

Information reaching us indicates that only ten out of the twelve countries that qualified for the championship have so far signified interest to be in Durban for the championship which will produce the two countries that will represent Africa in next year's FIBA under 19 World Championship.
