Congress sacks Galadima, sets fresh elections date![]()
This development is as a result of the decision by members of the congress, which included members of Galadima's defunct board, the sports ministry's 'faceless presence' and stakeholders. Reports reaching us from Abuja have it that, today's proceedings of the NFA Congress was supervised by both Confederation of African Football CAF and Federation of International Football Association, FIFA representatives respectively. After the day's affairs, August, 2006 was set for fresh elections into the board of the nation's soccer house. Reactions to the new development were quite in support of the exit of the former chairman, Alhaji Galadima, who refused to relinquish the mandate bestowed on him by last December 29 elections in Kano, but condemned and denied by majority of Nigerians, including the stakeholders and a handful of other head-over-heels lovers of the game of football in the country. Sequel to this, a new Electoral Board to be chaired by a one time chairman of the NFA, retired Air Force officer, Group Captain John Obakpolor has been appointed to conduct the August Elections. Other members of the electoral board include; Ayo Bello, Kazaire, Chinedu Finje and Charles Ojugbana as Secretary, amongst others. Alhaji Galadima though not impressed by the congress' decision, said that since it was the decision of the people that he should go, so let it be. 0
