Thuram tongue-lashes French Far Right leader
Lilian Thuram, the most capped member of the French World Cup squad to the 2006 Mundial holding in Germany, has lashed-out at his country's 2002 Presidential runner-up to the the President, Jean Marie Le Pen for saying that, there are too many "coloured players" in the French squad.
According to the player, who has worn the French colours in international engagements for no fewer than 118 times, Le Pen obviously is "unaware of the fact that, as there are blacks, so also are there blond and brown Frenchmen." The Juventus Seria A Italian side player, expressed surprise that Le Pen, who has tirelessly and unrepentantly yearned to become the President of France, does not know French history..."that is the most serious and surprising" aspect of Le Pen's criticism of the French team. Thuram likened Le Pen's statement to that of some one who, looks at the American basketball team and claim that it's a black team. He said that, Frenchmen and women celebrated French 3-1 whipping of Spain last week without caring to know whether the French side was black, white or not. The player is from Guadeloupe and about two third of the 23 players, who fly the French flag at the Mundial in Germany, are blacks. The European nation's current playmaker, Zinedine Zidane was born in Marseille, France but he is of Algerian African parents; ditto some other French players with African anscenstral heritages. 0
