Mixed feelings greet Ghana's ouster
While some pro-Ghanaian Black Stars blamed their ouster from the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany, some others simply felt that, the West Africans were just no match for the South Americans; yet a handfull of ball followers told nigeriasports.com that, the Ghanaians lacked the guts and effontry to strike at the Brazillians for fear of being humiliated and embarrassed out of Germany.
Coach Godfrey Esu was irked by the Ghanaians' inability to "at least, hit at the Brazillians once. I was disturbed by the Ghanaians' inability to come to grips with the game and drive home at least one goal out of the many scoring chances that came their way during the match. They had quite a few chances which they could not utilize...I don't know whether to say that, they were scared of the Brazillians but their reaction in the vital area of the South Americans, showed nothing short of fright and may be, glorifying their advancement to face a team like Brazil in a World Cup Finals after defeating the world's second ranked nation, Czechs." Chris Anigala is an ex-international and a licenced football coach. He felt differently and would say: "Quite honestly, the Brazillians out-played the Africans and they took control of the mid-field, which is the power house of almost all Brazillian teams." Inspite of this however, the ex-defunct Abiola Babes FC ace left winger, who is back in the country, would wish that, "all African teams in general, go back and learn the rules of the game; know when it is off or on side." He was of the views that, the Ghanainans played their normal game tactically but, were vulnerable to the counter-attacks of their opponents from South America. "They, the neighbouring West Africans were not cautious enough; especially in the mid-field." As a licenced football coach, Anigala would tell his boys this; he was in charge of the Black Stars in that encounter: "No one can score two goals with a shot. Put your acts together; be patient and be conservative in the second half approach. It was a fair game and I am proud of the Black Stars even in defeat," Anigala concluded with a broad smile. 0
