Milo: Benue Schools Sweep Central Conference

Schools representing Benue State has won the two tickets to represent the Central Conference in this year's national final of the Nestle Milo Secondary Schools’ Basketball Championship billed for Lagos in October.

Benue State’s Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko defeated defending champions, Army Day Secondary School, Asokoro 18-10 to lift the girl’s trophy, while their boys counterparts, Bristow Secondary School, Gboko, outplayed Army Day Secondary School, Asokoro, Abuja by  45-30 points to emerge champions in the final played at Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja.

The boys’ final was particularly interesting as the FCT boys shot into an early lead with two successive three pointers by Adewale Ademakinwa, but the Benue boys led by Ben Kondom who emerged the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), fought back gamely with skillful dribbling runs cheered by the impressed spectators.

The Benue boys took a 10-point lead into the last quarter and held on to the lead till the end of the exciting match.

Group Brand Manager of the food drink giant Banji Okubote,reiterated the sponsor’s commitment to continue to partner with the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) to identify and nurture more basketball talents in Nigeria.

Prizes including trophies and cheques were later presented to the winners and losers, as well as the third-placed winners, Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin (Girls) and Government Secondary School, Ilorin (Boys).

The championship has since moved to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for the Equatorial conference. More dunking action will subsequently continue at the Atlantic conference in Asaba, Delta State from June 21 to 26.
