Pelican, Bayelsa very ruthless!

*As Kaduna Queens Pull Out Two of Nigeria’s top Clubs, reigning Champions Pelican Stars of Calabar and Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa last weekend jointly set a league record of ten goals in the opening matches of the season, reports Nigeriasports.com.

The Calabar girls, coached by Super Falcons chief tactician, Ntiero Effiom plundered Oladimeji Tigress 5-1 in Ilorin in a match Camerounian International Bella Francoise harvested the first hat-trick of the season.

“It as just her day” remarked Pelican Stars Team Manager Ani Oku Ita. “She was just all over the hosts”. Reigning African Woman Footballer of the Year Perpetua Nkwocha, back in the country after a spell in China, opened Pelican’s account early on the 5th minute while Chinyere Njoku, bought from Sunshine Queens this season made it two in the 12th minute before the “Bella Francoise Show” began.

Tigress of Ilorin, perennial underachievers, recorded their consolation goal through Ngozi Ngoka from the   penalty spot in the 27th minute.Yenagoa based Bayelsa Queens, still smarting from their failure to clinch the league title last year, after gulping millions of Naira from soccer-mad former Governor Dipreye Alameseigha, look set to make amends.

They pounced on neighbours Rivers Angels with reckless abandon. After 90 minutes in Port Harcourt, the Angels had conceded five unreplied goals.

“This is just the beginning but we want to send a message” thundered Coach Rolandson Odey who is an assistant with the National under-20 team, the Super Falconets. Pint-sized Super Falcons attacker, Vera Okolo Ekwui opened the floodgates on the 47th minute and five minutes later completed her brace. Then Tawa Ishola and Kikelomo Ajayi added two more to deny the Angels any hope of salvaging some pride. The last goal was scored by Cecilia Nku, now in her third year with the Club.

“We draw our motivation from the support of our state governor, Goodluck Jonathan who has paid the girls eighty percent of their entitlements’ Team Manager of Bayelsa Queens Mablas Appoloma Junior explained. Elsewhere, Delta Queens defeated Oyinlola Queens 2-0 in Kwale while Sunshine Queens piped Nassarawa Amazons 1-0. The encounter between FCT Queens and Kaduna Queens in Abuja was a no-show as the Kaduna lads had pulled out of the league.
