How Sharks FC Trounced Gombe United

Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt moved out of relegation zone after a 2-1 turn-around victory over visiting Gombe United Fc. League veteran Bala Manu caused a lot of anxiety to the home side, when he caught U-23 goal tender, Daniel Akpeyi flat-footed, hitting the opening goal just two minutes into the week-8 encounter.

The Gombe United hitman collected a pass from midfield, ran towards Sharks' defence, dribbled two defenders, before blasting a thunderous shot to the right roof of the net. This action brought out the fire and water in Sharks to emerge from their sea bed to fight for equalizer.

Ugo Okeke, former Rangers Fc's striker settled the already frayed nerves and at the 28th minute, notched up the leveller for Sharks after goalmouth scramble... substitute Akeem Yakubu nodded in a second goal for the homers after 70 minutes of play.  Sharks pointman Ugo Okeke protested what the referee ruled off as penalty as a result of ball to hand situation.  Sharks' left full back Nwosa, also took a grounder which went some inches away from the goal target.

In all, Sharks the Garden City darlings, wasted a lot of scoring chances,;about five to be precise with an opportunity to get a third goal after Endurance Alaboru ballooned a penalty kick few minutes to the end of proceedings. Gombe United's 29-shirted player, brought down a Sharks player for the penalty. Ugo Okeke was   pulled out for Gabriel Agu, while Akeem came in for Jersey number 14.

In substitution, Gombe threw in Egbelu for shirt number twenty-two and replaced number seven with jersey number twenty-eight. Technical adviser of the Gombe State outfit, Tunde
Abdulrahman told journalists at the Liberation Stadium after the encounter that,, from what he heard about Sharks and what he saw, there were some improvements on the team.

He said that they were stretching out and needed to improve on stamina.  He further sounded a note of warning that his team will come out stronger in the   second round of the NFL league.  In his own reaction, Sharks technical adviser, Stanley Eguma said that though his team wasted a lot of scoring chances, he thanked God that they won. He added that with time, they would improve on every department of the game, as they are moving towards cohesion.
