Nigeria begins chase for Olympic ticket

Nigeria female volleyball side will on Thursday face Egypt in the Athens 2004, Olympic qualifiers billed for the Moi international sports centre, in Kasarani-Kenya.

The side still basking in the euphoria of their success at the last All Africa games in Abuja will contest the sole African ticket alongside host Kenya; nations cup champions Egypt and Seychelles.

The Nigeria girls brimming with confidence arrived Kenya on Monday, with determination to emulate the recent success of the nation’s basketball team in Mozambique.

Kenya coach, Abdul Muge and his girls will spike off the opening game against the Seychelles Thursday afternoon.

Priscilla Agela led Nigeria side will face the tough spiking Egyptians in the second game of the day.

...Not man enough

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s male volleyball team has been disqualified from taking part in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games qualifiers by the Organising Committee of the African Olympic Qualification Tour.

www.nigeriasports.com  gathered that the Sports Organising Committee (SOC) took the decision to disqualify Nigeria from the competition because the team didn't reach Tunisia before 12 a.m. Tuesday January 6.

According to available reports, 12a.m was the deadline given by the committee to allow the participation of the Nigerian team after their absence in their opening match against the host Tunisia.
