Bayelsa promises better days for fans

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Douye Diri has promised that, come the beginning of the next stanza of the Globacom Premier League, soccer fans in the State would be treated to top matches in Yenagoa.

He made this pledge during an interview with nigeriasports.com in Yenagoa saying: "Our stadium is now under construction and hopefully, we will finish works before the beginning of the next half of the season.  You know our two teams in the Premiership are playing in Delta State and this, we know is not good for both the players and their fans.

"This is why works on the stadium are being geared up to ensure that, our teams - Bayelsa United and Ocean Boys have their home engagements honoured here in Yenagoa and not Delta State.  We know our soccer fans want the best and we are endeavouring to do the best for them.

"We appeal to them to hold their peace as better days a ahead for them come the next half of the season," Diri who assumed affice as the State Sports Commission barely four months to the last Gateway Games in Abeokuta to us.

He disclosed that, at the 15th National Sports Festival in Ogun State, Bayelsa finished 4th, which was the best position ever that the State had ever returned in such national fiestas.  Looking back at the performances of the State's contingent to the Games, Diri said that, it was the understanding of the youth and the rapport between him and them, that inflated that ego and the zeal to achieve.

"It was a result got because of the indentification between the youth and the authority.  You must identify with the youths so that, you can get what you want and they too, what they want.  Our aim in the league, is to go continental at the end of the season and just merely taking part in the Premiership," a confident Diri told nigeriasports.com
