Ex-international predicts worse times until...![]()
The one time junior international goal warden told nigeriasports.com that, it was not time yet to sing "Haleluyah." According to him, "until sports especially football. is completely or at worse, partially removed from the claws of government and handed over to practitioners as a corporate entity and administered as such, there can be no way out of the doldrum. "Until sportsmen and women are allowed to run their business themselves, with government watching from the sidelines, as is done elsewhere in the world, there can be good results," the ex-junior international and former defunct Stationery Stores Flamengoes FC keeper, predicted. He was not through yet with his prophecy of continued doom for our sports. "Given that government is the supervisory body of any national sports association, yet professionals are given the chance to rule their profession. You don't just get anybody to rule sports; as a non-medical man cannot be chosen to head our hospitals, etc. "Sports with special reference to soccer, because that is my area of specialization, is real business all over the world except Nigeria and this is because those, who know the art, are not allowed to take their destinies in their hands. "Let me erase one nasty or rather, wrong impression by some people here. And that is that, sports is done by school drop-outs. "This is wrong. Football for intance, is not played by school drop-outs as was the belief. Football...I mean the round leather, is faster than the player and you have to be smart and fast enough upstairs, to catch-up with it," JB (as he is fondly called by his close pals) argued logically. He said he was happy that, the clog in the wheels of the game had been removed..."but this is only a temporary treatment. There should be a permanent cure to the ills of the game in the country and until this is done, there can be no solution to the perenial problem plaguing the game in my dear country," Omoregie, who is now a Euro-based players' manager concluded. 0
