Vatalis Lanshima sets New World record

Duderstadt, GERMANY – On Saturday May 20th Vitalis Lanshima, participating at the Paralympic Challenge in Duderstadt, Germany, set a new world record in the 100 meters Class T45, raising the bar from 11:45 seconds to 11:18 seconds.

The Paralympic Challenge is an elite competition organized by German-based prosthesis manufacturer Otto Bock. It brings together amputee athletes from across the globe that made the finals in their events at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece. Vitalis, who missed out on the games in Greece, was invited on discretionary grounds based on his previous performance.
“I am ecstatic to achieve this feat here in Germany in the presence of the International Paralympic Committee members” said Vitalis.

He was excluded from the Nigerian Paralympic team in 2004 but has continued to impress with his performances, running unverified times of 11:08 seconds and 22:53 seconds in the 100 and 200 meters respectively. The competition in Germany enabled Vitalis Lanshima to settle scores with Elliot Mujaji, who is the current world champion in the 100 and 200 meters Class T46, and gold medalist at the Paralympic Games in Athens.

Lanshima won both the 100 meters and 200 meters Class T46 beating the currentchampion to third and second place respectively. According to Lanshima, “this is just a tip of the iceberg.
I have continued to train hard and I will always train hard. I disappointed my country, my fans and myselfat the Commonwealth Games in Australia, and I must make it up to them.”
