NTF chief paints bright future in 2007

President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF Engr. Sani Ndanusa has painted a rosy future for the country’s tennis predicting 2007 as the year for the big breakthrough.

In an exclusive interview, Ndanusa who is also the Vice President of the Confederation of African Tennis, CAT told nigeriasports.com that Nigerian players would hit 300 in the International Tennis Federation ranking by the year 2007.

“Right now, our players are showing a lot of promise in their different outings and it won’t be long they will join the big league.
The President, a long time sponsor of tennis dismissed suggestions that Nigeria was still playing the second fiddle in the sub region.
“No not all

." Why some people are having this impression that some countries on the west coast are doing better than us is that while these countries have few stars Nigeria has a deluge of stars” When reminded that Nigeria enjoyed a more memorable era in the eighties with the performance of Imonitie, Odizor, Abdullahi, and Mmoh in the international circuit, Ndanusa responded.

“Nigeria is still enjoying that golden era. The only missing link is the appearance of a Nigerian player in Wimbledon like Odizor did in his time”
Ndanusa further stated that the NTF under his leadership was taking a “holistic approach in developing the sport in Nigeria”.

He explained “Apart from developing the players, we are also developing our coaches and umpires by exposing them to different programmes. Beyond that we are also playing the politics of the sport”.
