IAAF endorse Nigeria mountain race
The International Amateur Athletics Federation has recognised the Obudu Mountain Race, which is now in its second year.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the mountain race, William Archibong, said recently in Lagos that the world Athletic body had called for the registration of the Obudu event as one of its permit races. Archibong said, “The IAAF sent us a form and they invited us to register the race as one of the permit meets. We are going to act fast on this because we are really proud to have made such an impact in our very first outing. “London Marathon started somehow before it became a big thing that the whole world cherishes. We are going to get better with time.” He said arrangements are in top gear to make this year’s event a memorable one for all the actors involved. “We had some challenges last year, may be because of the huge response to Obudu. This time we are ready to stage a better event and that is why we are starting early in all things. We are going to unfold the agenda for the event on Friday,” he said. The Local Organising Committee for the 2006 event has assured that more prime athletes will feature in the competition slated for November this year.
