The members of Nigeria Football League board (NFL)have congratulated the Governor of Rivers State Dr. Peter Odili for his effort towards the development of Football in the country.
Secretary General of the league board told
nigeriasports.com during Dolphin FC first league match
against Bayelsa united FC and also the commissioning
of the new and first Astro Turf Stadium in Africa,
that Rivers State government has shown a lot of
concern in developing sports in the country especially
in the area of football.
"I must confess, I don't think there is any state that
love and develop sports especially football like
Rivers State. From what we are seeing today, it shows
that Dr. Peter Odili is really a football supporter."
He further stated that for the Governor to bring Astro
Turf field in the state proves that Nigeria Football
is improving, hoping that other states would
learn from him for a change and for the interest of
the youth.
"This is the first time we are experiencing what is
called good football in the country, playing in one of
the best pitch in the world, it's not easy to build
such Astro Turf field but today we have one and hoping
to have more in future by the grace of God, he said.
In the same view Hon Sambo Babayaro also called on
other states to emulate the Rivers State to give football
a new look in the country.
"If we can have this type of stadium up to five in
this country our football will be the best in Africa,
if other clubs and state sports commissioners would
learn from Rivers State and do the same I think we
will be far from other countries as far as football is
concern." He stated.
