Abraka Turf Set for Easter Internaional Polo

Preparations have been concluded for the forthcoming Abraka International Polo Tournament, Nigeria’s number one privately organized polo tournament that holds at the serene Abraka Turf and Country Club in Abraka,Delta State every Easter Holiday.

Sponsored by Ashton Wells table water, the prestigious Abraka event which gallops off Friday, April14, 2006 and climax with fanfare on Monday, April 17, is reputed for its competition, excitement and pomp. With traditional rivals and defending champions like Lagos MRS, Xenon and crowd favourites, Ashbert Raiders participating, the high profile polo fiesta, promises to live up to the billings as the biggest event this Easter Holiday.

Expectedly, an exceptional mix of foreign high goal players competing for top honours, the Abraka’2006 is guaranteed to be an unforgettable four action-packed days of top polo. Notably foreign players like Howard Hipwood, Monty Gershon, Frankie Menendez, Bruno Ciponeri and Jamie Lee Hardy, the most experienced English player, who would be visiting Nigeria for the first time, would be competing.

Top Nigerian polo patrons and popular players like Sayyu Dantata, Dawule Baba, Prince Albert Esiri, Senator Toks Ogunbanjo, Yinka Akinkugbe Musa Yahaya, Bashir Musa, Mamuda Shehu and Gabriel Omale, among others are listed for action. Traditional prizes at stake during the fiesta include the Patron’s Trophy, which are the event’s top prize, the International Gold Cup, the Belgian Ambassador's Cup and the Conservation Trophy. Abraka 2006 promises an intense competition and above all, a wonderful Easter weekend of entertainment for patrons, members, guests and their family alike.

The Turf ground reputed as the best in Nigeria is primed, just as the well-groomed ponies and players are all set for the grand event. The Abraka Turf, which has a wide range of luxurious villas and chalets all with self-catering facilities. Also at the clubhouse is a standard restaurant and bar where exotic food and drinks are served.

Apart from Polo, guests with diverse sporting interests can buy themselves with other facilities put in place for Horse Riding, Tennis, Golf, Squash Racket, Swimming, Jogging, fishing and archery among others.

The popular Mike Aremu and the Crown Troop of Africa Dancers would provide musical entertainment. Nighttime socials include the Theme Night and yet another colourful pyrotechnic display.
