Early Gateway callers in accommodation hitch

Reports reaching nigeriasports.com from some of the early callers have it that "there seems not to be n pre-arranged accommodation for us, as we have to look for a place to at least, lay our heads for the first night." 

This we were further told, "is against reports that, accommodation of no fewer than 20,000 athletes and officials had been taken care of by the hosts."

"You can imagine, we arrived here in Abeokuta as early as 10.00 am, and until now that I am talking with you on phone (2.00pm), we have not been able to get a place.  We thought it was going to be as smooth as that of Abuja in 2004, where individual association's officials were allocated a hotel or guest house, where to stay soon on arrival.

"We do hope that, this would be a temporary hitch otherwise, we might have to find our ways home.  It is hoped that, before nightfall, we would have been given a place to stay, otherwise, everyone may have to find a way to get back to base," some officials, who spoke to us on condition of anonymity stated.

The national sports fiesta, which Ogun State, hosts have boasted would be the "very best ever sports festival" is expected to be flagged-off on Thursday, April 6, 2006.
