Bash plans to retire at 60 years

World class boxer, Nigerian Bashiru Ali, has said he would keep on boxing until he is 60 years old.

Bash who is preparing for a world title fight tentatively on May 25 against an American, Jib Joe in the supercruiserweight division told our correspondent that he would not quit the sport until he is 60.

He said was currently in touch with top officials of Ministry of Sports and Social Development for a fund raising Dinner for the world title fight billed for the Main Bowl of the National Stadium.

He said he hoped to get the $10 million target needed for the fight after the dinner. "It is going to be a night with the world champion with people buying tables," he added.

He explained that with the fight he would be gunning for a place in the Guinness Book of Records unlike when when he foght Terry Ray some few years ago when he was 44 years and 6 months.

"The current holder of the record is Joe Burgner from Australia who won a world title at 48 years and 110 days. This I hope to surpass after the fight in May," he said.

"I want to shock the world by being the oldest boxer to win a world title," he boasted.

Bash disclosed that a sum of $4million dollars out of the $10 million needed had already being realised through pay per view as he hoped to use the presidency through the Sports Ministry to get more donations from sports loving Nigerians.

"The task of realising this sum should not pose much problem to us as Nigeria is a rich country," he added.

Bash said the undercards which would be a bout on its own would feature Babatunde Jonathan who hopefully if he wins would move to the cruiserweight class.

Also another Nigerian boxer, Sarafa King would feature in a night that would include other side attractrions such as music, entertainment and great fun.

Bash said he intended to move to heavyweight category and become the champion of the world before he retires at 60.
